Ohio high school football player accused of stomping teen’s head with cleats after game

An 18-year-old high school football player faces a felony charge after police say he stomped on another teenager’s head while wearing football cleats following a game in Cincinnati.

Alex Davenport-White was charged with one count of aggravated assault in connection with an incident that occurred Oct. 3 at or near Willard Stargel Stadium on Ezzard Charles Drive. The venue hosts football and track events for Cincinnati Public Schools. Davenport-White is a senior football player at Hughes High School.

According to court records, the violence happened after a game between Hughes High School and Robert A. Taft Information Technology High School. Authorities stated that Davenport-White and the victim were involved in an altercation, though specific details leading up to the fight were not detailed in charging documents.

A criminal complaint states Davenport-White acted “in a sudden fit of rage” that may have been “brought on by serious provocations” and resulted in “serious physical harm” to the victim.

“Alex dragged and stomped the victim with football cleats, causing him to go unconscious,” the complaint reads. A police affidavit also stated the victim was “on the ground” when the defendant attacked him “in the head.”

Following the altercation, the victim was taken to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. According to the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office, the teen suffered multiple knots on his head, a swollen eye, and a loose tooth. Officials have not released the victim’s name or high school affiliation.

Davenport-White was booked into the Hamilton County Jail earlier this week. During his arraignment on Oct. 22, a judge set his bond at $5,000, which he posted that same day. He is scheduled to return to court on Nov. 2.
