Influencer and Prominent LGBTQ+ Advocate Mad Sandhu Dies in Roadside Shooting

Mad Sandhu — an influencer who was considered to be one of the most prominent LGBTQ+ voices in Punjab, India — died in a shooting on Oct. 3.
Sandhu was gunned down at a car wash in the Indian state by two suspects who rode off on a motorcycle, a spokesperson for the Commissionerate Police Amritsar said in a statement on Saturday. The content creator was reportedly rushed to a local hospital after the shooting, where he was pronounced dead, the statement added.
Sandhu was followed by over 230,000 on Instagram, where he was known for sharing his everyday life and showcasing his makeup skills. The internet personality also appeared in the film Oye Bhola Oye 2 and the web series Youth Kartoot.
The police spokesperson said in his statement that authorities “have obtained some leads” and vowed to “apprehend the culprits.”
Sandhu appears to have last updated his social media accounts on Oct. 3, hours before his death, sharing a video lip-syncing to the G Khan song “Mahi Milade.” In the comments, fans shared tributes to the late content creator in the wake of his death.
“My heart breaks for Mad Sandhu and his family,” penned one. “Rest in peace and may your courage to live authentically inspire people like me and others to do the same.”
