Amazon Prime customers may be able to get up to $200 as settlement expands
Amazon Prime customers may be eligible to receive more money from the e-commerce company’s $2.5 billion settlement.
The Federal Trade Commission announced Thursday that Amazon will “accelerate and expand payments” to eligible customers as part of the company’s 2025 settlement with the FTC.
In a lawsuit filed in 2023, the FTC claimed that Amazon used “manipulative, coercive, or deceptive user-interface designs” to “trick” consumers into enrolling in its Amazon Prime subscription services and made it difficult to cancel a Prime subscription, according to CNN.
Amazon was required to distribute $1.5 billion to customers as part of the settlement. As of September 2026, Amazon has issued more than $845 million in redress payments to consumers, according to a news release from the FTC.
A federal court approved a joint order between Amazon and the FTC this week allowing more customers to qualify for a refund, refund payments to increase from $51 to $200, and all future payments to be automatically distributed.
Amazon will now begin issuing automatic redress payments to millions of additional customers who used between 11 and 20 Prime benefits during one year. The original order required Amazon to send refunds of up to $51 to customers who used fewer than 10 Prime benefits during one year.
Customers do not have to sign up for the payments. They will be issued automatically to those who qualify.
Customers who were not included in earlier settlement payment phases will now be eligible for automatic refunds starting Oct. 1, according to the FTC. Payments will be made via electronic payment methods, such as Venmo or PayPal, or with a mailed check. Eligible customers will not be required to submit claims or complete any forms.
Amazon will provide additional automatic payments to customers who previously received refunds from the settlement if consumer-accepted payments do not reach the required amount of $1.5 billion by February 2027.
Customers who accepted previous refunds will be eligible to receive an additional $149, for a total of $200. The last round of supplemental payments will start by April 2027 and will also be distributed automatically, according to the FTC.
