Police sources says suspect appeared to be monitoring security days before Trump’s California trip

An armed man who was allegedly seen photographing and observing security preparations at President Trump’s Los Angeles-area golf course two days before the president’s visit has been taken into custody, authorities said.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, 38-year-old Jeanine John Taele was detained Sunday at Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes after plainclothes federal agents reported suspicious behavior. Investigators say Taele was carrying a 16-round magazine loaded with hollow-point ammunition, which is illegal under California law. A search of his vehicle also uncovered a loaded handgun and an additional loaded magazine.

Authorities said Taele had been seen walking around the golf course taking photos and videos while appearing to monitor security preparations. Deputies later determined he was also wanted in connection with a robbery in nearby El Segundo.

A subsequent search of Taele’s home in Downey led investigators to an illegally modified AR-style rifle, another handgun, body armor, multiple high-capacity magazines, a large quantity of ammunition, and notebooks containing what officials described as concerning statements.

Taele remains in custody on robbery, firearms, and ammunition charges. Officials emphasized that they have not identified a credible threat to the public and said he has not been charged with any crime related to an alleged plot against President Trump. The investigation remains ongoing.

The FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force and the U.S. Secret Service are assisting in the investigation. Authorities announced the arrest Tuesday, just hours before Trump arrived at the golf club for a Republican National Committee fundraising dinner.
