Doctors at the Kursk Regional Hospital in Russia recently uncovered the shocking cause behind a patient’s mysterious, long‑term eye pain: a nearly five‑inch piece of wood lodged from his eye socket deep into his skull.
According to Oddity Central, the patient — a 50‑year‑old man named Yuri — first injured himself in 2024 while doing yard work. Without protective eye gear, he felt a sudden sharp pain in his left eye while chopping maple branches. Believing it was just a small splinter, he brushed it off when the pain quickly faded.
For the next two years, Yuri dealt only with occasional flashes of discomfort. Multiple ophthalmologists examined him, but none could identify the cause, and their treatments offered no relief.
