Parents Name Baby ‘Pheart’… Then Are Shocked When Nobody Knows How to Pronounce It

Choosing a unique baby name is one thing.

Choosing one that leaves virtually everyone scratching their heads is something else entirely.

A photo of a newborn named “Pheart” recently went viral online after people noticed the unusual spelling and began debating how on earth the name was supposed to be pronounced. The internet quickly did what it does best—and the jokes came pouring in.

At first glance, many readers pronounced the name exactly as it appears: “fart.” Others guessed it might be “Fear-t,” “Fair-t,” “Furt,” or even “Pee-heart.” A handful of commenters suggested the parents intended it to be pronounced simply “Heart,” with a silent “P,” although no official pronunciation was ever confirmed.

The original photo showed the baby wearing a shirt that read “Mischief Maker,” an unintended detail that many commenters found especially fitting given the controversy surrounding the child’s name.

Social media had a field day.

“I genuinely cannot figure out how this came to pass,” one commenter wrote.

Another joked, “Little baby Fart… such a mischief maker!”

Others expressed sympathy for the child, pointing out that teachers, nurses, classmates and future employers would likely struggle with the spelling for years to come.

Not everyone piled on, however. Some users argued that unusual names have become increasingly common and that people shouldn’t rush to mock a family’s personal choice. Still, even those defending the parents admitted the spelling was likely to create confusion for virtually everyone who encountered it for the first time.

One important detail often got lost as the story spread online.

Despite headlines claiming the parents were upset that people kept pronouncing the name incorrectly, there has been no verified evidence that the parents themselves ever complained. Much of the viral story grew out of online speculation and reposts of the original photograph rather than direct comments from the family.

Whether the name is ultimately pronounced “Heart” or something else entirely remains a mystery.

One thing, however, seems certain:

If your baby’s name requires a lengthy pronunciation guide before anyone can say it correctly… the internet is probably going to have a little fun with it first.
