Sheep Invade German Supermarket, Leave Chaos in Their Wake
Shoppers at a supermarket in the German town of Burgsinn expected to find fresh produce and discounted groceries. Instead, they found themselves sharing the aisles with about 50 sheep.
The flock somehow broke away from a herd of roughly 500 animals being moved through the area. According to their shepherd, the sheep were apparently distracted by acorns, wandered into a parking lot, and then decided the automatic doors of a Penny supermarket looked like an invitation.
Once inside, the woolly shoppers wasted no time conducting what witnesses described as a very enthusiastic “inspection” of the merchandise. Employees and customers scrambled onto checkout conveyor belts and counters to avoid being trampled as the sheep trotted through the store, knocking over bottles, scattering products, and leaving behind a generous amount of… well… fertilizer.
Eventually, the runaway flock was herded back outside, and the supermarket returned to business—after what was undoubtedly one of the strangest cleanup jobs in recent memory.
Naturally, the internet had a field day.
One commenter wrote, “Finally, a store where the customers actually wanted to see the salad bar.”
Another quipped, “This is what happens when you advertise prices that are baaa-rgain worthy.”
And perhaps the best observation of all:
“The sheep were simply trying to find the self-checkout.” 🐑🛒
