‘I Am Not Going To Sit Here And Be Yelled At’: Socialist Candidate Storms Out Of Interview Before Winning Race
A sudden exit marked the moment when Darializa Avila Chevalier, supported by Mamdani and the DSA, left a live radio chat mid-session. Hosts had brought up old online comments – ones that stirred debate – and her response came fast. Instead of answering, she stood, cut the conversation short. The air hung still once the studio door closed behind her.
Hours after securing victory with more than 49 percent of ballots cast, the candidate sat down Tuesday with Spanish-speaking outlet La Mega. Victory came by pushing out longtime Democrat Adriano Espaillat from New York’s 13th Congressional seat. Pressed on past online remarks during the broadcast, she stayed silent instead of engaging the interviewers directly.
A deleted post of Chevalier’s expressed the candidate’s dislike of the Dominican flag, although her parents are both immigrants from the Dominican Republic.
“[T]his fucking nationalism is why I don’t be putting that flag in my bio that shit is violent and there is nothing good that can come of it,” the socialist posted, referring to the absence of a Dominican flag in her social media profile.
Out of nowhere, Chevalier made a remark that stirred backlash from Dominican-Americans living in her area. Her hesitation to embrace elements of their heritage became a point of friction. People took issue – not loudly, but clearly – with how she held back. The response came sharp and grounded in lived experience. What seemed like caution to some felt like dismissal to others.
One of the La Mega hosts asked Chevalier to “address the Dominican community that may feel bad for the things she has said in the past.”
Frowning at her phone, Chevalier admitted most of her online updates left a sour taste. Still, her area had to stand firm when it came to defending what mattered locally
Out of nowhere, a different host brought up the Dominican flag display. She shifted away once more, explaining her interest lay with what’s affecting people living in New York’s 13th district
When the host continued to press her for a comment, Chevalier interrupted. “I am not going to sit here and be yelled at by various people,” she said.
The arrogant Darializa Ávila Chevalier went to the program EL VACILÓN DE LA MAÑANA EN NEW YORK 🗽 and got upset with Pacha, Excarlet and Guebín because they told her to apologize for offending Dominicans and the flag.

Chevalier rose to her feet, spoke softly – “Wish you a wonderful day” – then slipped off the headphones, walking out of the studio.
Along with her post on the Dominican flag, Chevalier has received criticism for inflammatory comments calling for the abolition of police and prisons and opposing U.S. institutions.
Midway through running, Chevalier said people should stop fixating on what she’d said before. What matters, she added, is where attention lands now – right there, on the policies being discussed.
The democratic socialist apologized for a comment she had made previously, where she said, “Fck Kamala Harris,” after the former vice president told Guatemalan immigrants in 2021 not to immigrate illegally.
But Chevalier continues to defend her position on deportations, saying all are wrong and that deporting an illegal immigrant after they have committed a crime is the same as “double jeopardy.”
Chevalier will go on to the general election in November, where she will likely win a seat in Congress.
