North Carolina woman asked Chili’s server to customize her son’s sandwich. Then the server started attacking her: ‘You are biting my head off’

A mother from North Carolina shared her recent experience at Chili’s. Her son asked for a customized sandwich, and the server response was unexpected. Working in the food service industry is tough, but sometimes, customers also get the short end of the stick.

The woman on TikTok (@bitchraccoon) posted a video responding to a pink-haired Chili’s barista. She claimed that the barista was complaining about her online, so she decided to post her side of the story.

“I was not being difficult. She was being rude and disrespectful,” the woman alleged. She said that if she had less patience, a fight would have ensued—but the woman restrained herself.

“My son just wanted a sandwich with a piece of cheese on it, and that’s it,” she prefaced the situation. She, her husband, and son went out one night to the local Chili’s. It was a Sunday evening, and it was the only night the family could have dinner together, as her husband was often out of town.

What was supposed to be a nice dinner was immediately disrupted by the server’s alleged attitude.

Family dinner gone wrong

Since her son was just twelve years old, she wanted him to learn how to order food for himself. He ordered a chicken sandwich but wanted it to have cheese in it without the other fillers.

“Actually, he wanted to order it off the 3 for Me,” she interrupted her son to clarify with the server. In the TikTok, she further explained that instead of ordering a separate sandwich, she included her son’s order in Chili’s famous 3 for Me promo because it came with a drink and side dishes for only $10.99.

“We can’t customize the sandwiches,” the server said. The woman alleged that the server said it in an aggressive tone.

“Oh, you can’t take stuff off of that?” The woman clarified, confused on why Chili’s wouldn’t let her son have a sandwich that only had cheese and chicken in it. But the server assumed that the boy wanted to have additional cheese.

Even the boy was confused and asked the server if he could get just a chicken sandwich with a side of cheese. The mother started explaining to the boy that they couldn’t get the 3 For Me meal.

“I’m sorry I upset you. I don’t make the rules,” the server butted in, with the mother recalling her words in an angry tone.

“I wasn’t upset until now, until, like, you are biting my head off,” the mother expressed on TikTok. She didn’t express her frustration at the time of the incident, but nevertheless, the woman alleged that the server just stopped acknowledging her. The woman further alleged that she tried to tell the server she wasn’t upset and just wanted her son to have his chicken sandwich with cheese on it.

Instead, the server passed the woman’s table off to someone else. The woman also said she saw the server talk to another staff member, and throughout the night, she felt their gaze on their table.

The worst Chili’s employee

What frustrated the woman was that she claimed to have been in food service as well. She said she worked at her city’s Olive Garden at one point.

“I’ve done it. I go out of my way to treat people with kindness and respect,” the woman said.

The commenters on her TikTok video were just as surprised by the interaction that took place. Some, who claimed to be Chili’s employees, confirmed that the 3 for Me promo can be modified. They also encouraged her to report the rude server.

One alleged manager said, “Chili’s manager here. You can customize everything on our menu, to include the 3 for me section. Contact corporate please.”

Another wrote, “As a general manager of a Chili’s, you can absolutely customize the sandwiches on the three for me. I’m not sure what location you went to, but I would definitely be reaching out to corporate.”

An employee also commented, “As a Chili’s employee, even if we can’t modify it on the computer we can literally go tell a manager or go tell the cook ourselves to modify it.”

Everyone has bad days, but no family deserves to get their dining experience ruined over a chicken sandwich.
