Black Lives Matter cofounder Patrisse Cullors adds new $1.2 million home to real estate portfolio
Patrisse Cullors recently added to her California real estate portfolio with the purchase of a home in Topanga Canyon, nearly two years after selling another property in the same area.
The Black Lives Matter cofounder bought the property for $1,270,000 earlier this month. Originally built in 1918, the renovated home boasts 1,100 square feet while featuring three bedrooms and two bathrooms. It sits on a quarter-acre lot surrounded by trees and canyon views. The property includes a main residence, along with a detached one-bedroom guest cottage that has its own kitchenette and bathroom.
Cullors also owns a four-bedroom home in Los Angeles that she originally bought in 2018 for $590,000. She previously owned a three-bedroom, two-bathroom home in Topanga Canyon that she purchased for $1.43 million in March 2021 and sold for $1.85 million in September 2024. Last year, Cullors sold another Los Angeles property for $925,000 after purchasing it for $500,000 in 2016.
Cullors came under fire when she was serving as executive director of the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation — a separate nonprofit organization that raises and distributes funds in support of Black Lives Matter. Critics questioned if donations made to the BLMGNF had been misappropriated by Cullors.
She denied the allegations.
“The idea that (the foundation) received millions of dollars and then I hid those dollars in my bank account is absolutely false,” Cullor said in a 2022 interview with the Associated Press. “That’s a false narrative. It’s impacted me personally and professionally, that people would accuse me of stealing from Black people.”
BLM’s official Twitter account at the time addressed the situation as well.
“Patrisse has received a total of $120,000 since the organization’s inception in 2013, for duties such as serving as spokesperson and engaging in political education work,” the statement read, per BET. “Patrisse did not receive any compensation after 2019.”
