ICE agent ‘mowed down as shots fired and vehicle flees’
An ICE agent was struck by a fleeing vehicle during an arrest in Manahawkin, NJ.
Photos show an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent sitting on the ground in front of a vehicle as other officers crowd around him. According to the incident description, an agent was later seen on a stretcher.
Traffic on Route 72 near Manahawkin is heavily shut down after the agent was struck by a fleeing vehicle. The agent immediately opened fire. It comes after a famous TV star shockingly insisted an ICE shooting victim ‘deserved to be shot.
The suspect managed to escape the area in the vehicle and still remains at large.
Officials said that the ICE agent received unknown injuries during the incident. It’s unclear whether the suspect was wounded by gunfire.
Despite the suspect being at large, local authorities believe there is no threat to public safety.
In a statement, the Strafford Township Police Department clarified that they were no involved in the federal operation, citing strict adherence to state law.
“Stafford Township Police adheres to the Attorney General’s Immigrant Trust Directive and was not assisting or a part of the I.C.E. operation,” the department said.
Local police are not conducting the ongoing criminal investigation. Instead, municipal officers are handling traffic management and securing the active crime scene on Route 72.
