Ohio festival shooting suspect glares in past mugshot, remains on the lam after 12 injured

Police in Ohio Wednesday were hunting for a 20-year-old man in connection with a shooting at a street festival over the weekend, as they released his mugshot along with a picture of a “second shooter” they need help identifying.

Ka Nye Taylor is wanted on 11 counts of felonious assault following the mass shooting at the Old West End Festival last Saturday, police in Toledo announced.

Cops also released a surveillance grab of a second unidentified male suspect dressed all in black who is alleged to have been involved.

Several people of interest have been brought in for interviews with investigators executing multiple search warrants, but no arrests have been made.

The shooting broke out after two groups “disrespecting each other … led into a little bit of a foot chase” before one individual assaulted another person, Chief Troendle said.

“At that point, one person pulled out a firearm and started shooting. Someone from the rival group then pulled out his firearm and started returning fire,” Troendle said.

Three of the 12 people shot were involved in the altercation, while the rest were innocent bystanders, according to Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz.

Anyone with information regarding Taylor’s whereabouts or the second shooter’s identity is encouraged to call or text Crime Stoppers anonymously at 419-255-1111.

A reward of up to $10,000 has been offered by police for any information leading to the suspects’ arrests.

An additional $5,000 reward has been offered by the US Marshals Service.

The victims, ranging in age from teenagers to one person in their 60s, were all expected to make a recovery.

All but three of the wounded had been released from the hospital by Tuesday.

Troendle and other city officials praised the quick work of responding officers and good Samaritans who helped the victims.

“We saw strangers who were shocked and frightened by the violence they just saw, they jumped into action. They helped others by placing tourniquets, dressing wounds, applying pressure and comforting those victims until additional help could arrive,” Chief of Fire and Rescue Allison Armstrong said.

Half of the victims arrived at the hospital with tourniquets applied by either police or bystanders, Armstrong said.

Hundreds were in attendance at the festival, an annual two-day celebration covering several city blocks in Toledo’s historic district, featuring live music, food vendors and home tours.

Authorities canceled the second day of the festival on Sunday, saying it would have been “compassionate, responsible or possible” to allow it to continue through the weekend.
