‘Stand with us and demand justice’ | Suspect charged after father killed while helping recover son’s stolen truck
A black career criminal has been charged in the fatal shooting of a Houston father who was killed while helping track down his son’s stolen truck.

According to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, 37-year-old London Hogan Sr. has been charged with murder in the death of Louis Erebia, 56. Hogan is also charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for the non-fatal shooting of a second man and aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon in connection with the original truck theft.
Hogan was booked into the Harris County Jail.
Hogan is expected back in court Monday morning. During an initial court appearance Sunday night, no bond was set. Court officials said the trial court judge is expected to determine bond at a hearing on Monday.
The shooting happened Saturday near Airline Drive and the North Loop.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began shortly after 2 p.m. at a gas station near Tidwell Road and John Ralston Road. Deputies said an armed suspect carjacked a man and stole his truck.
Investigators said the stolen truck was equipped with a GPS tracker. After the truck was taken, the owner contacted his father, Erebia, for help locating it. A 24-year-old family friend also joined the search.
Authorities said Erebia and the younger man eventually located the truck at a Chevron gas station near Airline Drive and the North Loop. Investigators said a confrontation followed, leading to a crash.
According to investigators, Erebia and the younger man then chased after two suspects, a man and a woman, on foot. During the pursuit, authorities said the male suspect opened fire. Investigators have not released additional information about a possible second suspect. The investigation remains ongoing.
The 24-year-old was shot in the back but survived and is expected to recover. Erebia was transported to a hospital, where he later died.
Family to make public plea for justice
Erebia’s family will join Crime Stoppers of Houston for a news conference at 11 a.m. Monday at the organization’s headquarters. We will stream it live.
Victim advocate April Aguirre and members of Erebia’s family are expected to make a public plea for information and justice in the case.
In a statement released ahead of the news conference, the family described Erebia as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and community leader.
“Louis was 56 years old. He was a devoted husband of 22 years, a father of five, and a grandfather of three,” the family said.
The family said Erebia spent years volunteering with North Shore Little League, serving at The River church and supporting activities throughout Galena Park ISD, where his wife serves as a trustee.
“To those who knew him, he was much more than a victim in a news story — he was the kind of man this world desperately needs more of,” the family said.
The statement also addressed Erebia’s decision to pursue the suspects after the truck was located.
“When his son called in a panic after being robbed at gunpoint, Louis did what he had always done — he ran toward the people he loved,” the family said.
The family said Erebia was trying to protect the younger man who remained in the parking lot when shots were fired.
“In his final moments, he shielded that young man and paid the ultimate price,” the statement said. “He spent his last minute on this earth exactly as he spent his life — protecting others, putting others first, and fighting for the people he loved.”
The family described Erebia as hardworking, humble and always willing to help others.
“He never held grudges, never met a stranger, and had a way of lighting up every room he entered,” the statement said.
Erebia’s family is now calling for those responsible to face the full consequences of their actions.
“We are asking our community to stand with us and demand justice,” the family said. “We do not want watered-down sentences, lenient treatment, or easy bail.”
Nearby resident Morgan Parsons said she heard multiple gunshots before stepping outside.
“There was a body on the ground and it was just panic,” Parsons said. “A lot of people involved, a lot of screaming and crying. Intense is all I could say.”
Parsons said the violence was heartbreaking for those who witnessed it.
“It’s just heartbreaking and weighs you down,” she said.
