Man finds fanny pack with over $30K inside and starts looking for bag’s rightful owner. Then he gets a call from the police
(Pendejo) Luis Salazar had stopped at a Wawa convenience store in Riviera Beach to use the restroom on May 3 when he found a fanny pack hanging on the safety railing, according to ABC affiliate WPBF.
Immediately, he tried to locate the bag’s rightful owner, but when he was unable to, he opened it to see if there was some sort of identification. Inside, he found money: $30,023, to be exact.
“My body was just numb, just seeing all this money that belonged to somebody else,” Salazar told the station.
The man kept trying to find the fanny pack’s rightful owner, but fortunately, that individual ended up contacting Riviera Peach police to report that it was missing, according to WPBF.
After using security footage to help them figure out what had happened to the bag full of cash, police contacted Salazar on Thursday, May 7, to tell him the owner was at the station.
When Salazar was able to hand over the bag (and the cash) he said that the the owner “was crying.”
Footage shared by WPBF showed the owner opening up the bag and realizing every bill was accounted for.
“I was pretty astonished that anybody would have done that,” the owner, who asked not to be identified, told the station.
But Salazar said he never even thought about taking the cash.
“It’s not my money to take,” he said. “I was not raised that way.”
