An 8-year-old boy from England is being praised—and rewarded with free flight vouchers—after helping defuse a tense situation on a plane and preventing a possible midair diversion, according to reports.

Phoenix Rose was traveling home to Manchester from Turkey with his father, James, on a Jet2 flight when a woman on board became disruptive. She reportedly began arguing with and threatening flight attendants after they took away alcohol she had brought onto the plane. The crew warned that the flight might have to be diverted if she did not settle down.

James suggested moving the woman to sit between him and his son, and Phoenix stepped in to help calm her. A devoted Manchester United fan, he showed her his soccer cards featuring Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, sang songs, and asked her about her family and children. Over time, his efforts appeared to work. His father said the woman’s tone softened, and she remained calm for the rest of the three-and-a-half-hour flight.

Other passengers praised the boy’s actions, with one describing him as “an absolute superstar.” After landing, the pilot personally thanked Phoenix and his father, and the airline later rewarded them with flight vouchers and publicly recognized their compassion and kindness. Authorities took the woman into custody upon arrival in Manchester.
