U.S. forces intercepted an Iranian-flagged cargo vessel in the Gulf of Oman after it attempted to breach a naval blockade put in place by President Donald Trump as part of ongoing pressure on Iran amid a fragile ceasefire.
According to reports, the ship—identified as the Touska—was stopped on Sunday after ignoring warnings from a U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer. President Trump stated that the Navy disabled the vessel by targeting its engine room, bringing it to a halt. U.S. Marines then boarded and took control of the ship.
The Touska, a massive cargo vessel measuring close to 900 feet, had already been under U.S. Treasury sanctions due to prior illicit activities. Following the interception, American forces secured full custody of the ship and began inspecting its contents.

Further details reported by major outlets indicate the vessel had departed from China and was carrying materials classified as dual-use chemicals—substances that can be used in the production of ballistic missiles. This has raised concerns that the shipment may have been intended to support Iran’s weapons capabilities, potentially in violation of international sanctions.
During an interview on CNBC, President Trump commented on the seizure, suggesting the cargo could have originated as assistance from China. He expressed surprise, noting his previously positive relationship with Chinese leadership, but acknowledged the complexities involved in geopolitical conflicts.
