Singer and actor Cher has returned to court seeking legal control over the finances of her son, Elijah Blue Allman, following recent legal trouble and what her legal team describes as a worsening personal situation.

According to a petition filed last week in Los Angeles County Superior Court, the 79-year-old entertainer is requesting a temporary conservatorship over the 49-year-old’s estate. Court documents obtained by USA Today state that Cher believes her son’s ongoing struggles with mental health and substance use have reached a severe level. The filing asks that private fiduciary Jason Rubin be appointed to oversee Allman’s finances, including managing payments from a trust created by his late father, musician Gregg Allman, and handling his outstanding bills. The documents also state that Allman is currently receiving treatment at a psychiatric hospital in New Hampshire.

Cher’s attorney, Justin B. Gold, argues in the petition that Allman is incapable of responsibly managing money. The filing claims he spends most of what he has on drugs, luxury hotel stays, and limousine services, and says he may be easily taken advantage of by others. Court records estimate that Allman’s estate is worth around $132,000, while his financial obligations are far greater. These reportedly include about $200,000 owed in taxes, unpaid spousal support to his estranged wife Marieangela King, and borrowed funds that were used to cover an $18,000 drug-related debt. The documents further allege that Allman has been removed from 18 hotels due to erratic conduct, caused multiple kitchen fires, and engaged in inappropriate sexual behavior toward hotel employees.

The new filing comes after two separate arrests in New Hampshire earlier this year. In late February, Allman was arrested at St. Paul’s School on charges including assault, trespassing, criminal threatening, and disorderly conduct. In early March, he was arrested again following an alleged home break-in that resulted in burglary charges as well as accusations that he violated bail conditions.

Cher previously attempted to establish a conservatorship over her son in 2023. However, she dropped the request the following year after Allman told the court he intended to change his behavior and bring in a business manager to handle his finances. According to Gold, those commitments were not followed through on. A judge is scheduled to hear the new request on Friday.
