Jessica McClure Morales, widely remembered as “Baby Jessica,” has resurfaced in the news following an arrest in Midland County, Texas. According to local authorities, the 40-year-old was taken into custody Saturday night after deputies responded to a reported domestic disturbance at her residence, as reported by YourBasin.com.

Arrest records show Morales faces a charge of assault causing bodily injury related to family violence. Deputies arrived at the home shortly before 10 p.m., according to KTAL. Officials have not released further details about what led to the incident.

Morales was later released from the Midland County detention center after posting bond.

She first became known around the world in 1987 when, as an 18-month-old toddler, she fell into an abandoned well in Midland, Texas. Her rescue after nearly 60 hours underground was followed closely by media outlets across the globe and turned her into a national symbol of hope.

Following the dramatic rescue, donors contributed to a trust fund that eventually reached about $1.2 million. Morales has said that much of the money was later lost during the 2008 stock market crash.

Morales and her husband are the parents of two grown children.
