Fairfield police arrested a man earlier this week after he attempted to break into a home.

A disturbing home security recording from Fairfield, California has gone viral online after capturing a tense and frightening encounter outside a family residence.

The video, recorded by a doorbell camera, shows 30-year-old Jason Nichols outside a home on Burbank Court questioning the homeowner through the camera system while a woman and child were inside the house.

At the start of the interaction, Nichols appears calm and asks if someone can open the door and whether everything inside the house is okay. The conversation quickly becomes unsettling when he begins asking about the homeowner’s daughter. The homeowner, who was not at the residence at the time, told Nichols to leave the property.

Authorities say Nichols then became aggressive. He started pounding on the front door, tore the doorbell camera off the wall, and made threats while attempting to force his way inside by kicking the door. Police later confirmed that the homeowner’s wife and daughter were inside the house during the incident.

According to investigators, the homeowner’s husband was watching the situation through the home’s security system while he was away. After seeing what was happening, he rushed back to the house.

When Nichols could not break through the front entrance, police say he managed to enter the home through a sliding glass door while the family remained inside. By the time the homeowner returned, the situation quickly escalated.

The homeowner confronted Nichols with a shovel, leading to a physical fight between the two men. Both sustained head injuries during the confrontation.

Police officers arrived shortly afterward and found Nichols outside the residence. He was taken to a local hospital and later booked into jail on several felony charges related to the break-in.

The initial interaction showing Jason Nichols, 30, threatening the residents and attempting to enter the home was caught on a now viral video.

The incident happened in the 1700 block of Burbank Court and the video has since circulated widely on social media, where many viewers have reacted to the suspect’s behavior and his questions about the family’s child.

Despite the frightening encounter, police said the woman and child inside the home were not physically injured.

Nichols’ bail was set at $35,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday afternoon.
