President Trump Announces the U.S. is Beginning to Clear Out the Strait of Hormuz ‘As a Favor to Countries All Over the World’

President Donald Trump said the United States has begun clearing the Strait of Hormuz in an effort to restore safe passage through one of the world’s most critical shipping routes, describing the action as assistance to other nations that have been unwilling to take on the task themselves.

In a message posted on Truth Social, the president criticized what he called inaccurate reporting by the “Fake News Media,” accusing them of falsely claiming that Iran is gaining the upper hand in the conflict. Trump argued the opposite, saying Iran’s military capabilities have been severely damaged and that the country is suffering major losses.

Trump stated that Iran’s naval forces and air force have effectively been wiped out, along with its air defense systems and radar capabilities. He also said missile and drone production facilities had been heavily destroyed, along with many of the weapons themselves. According to Trump, several long-time Iranian leaders are no longer in power.

The president added that Iran’s remaining threat comes mainly from sea mines placed in the region. However, he said the boats used to deploy those mines have also been destroyed, with all 28 of the vessels now sunk.

Trump explained that the United States has begun the process of clearing mines from the Strait of Hormuz to restore normal shipping activity. He said the effort benefits numerous countries that depend on the route for energy shipments, including China, Japan, South Korea, France, and Germany. Trump said those nations rely on the passage but have not taken action themselves to secure it.

He also noted a shift in global energy movement, saying oil tankers from multiple countries are now heading toward the United States to load American oil instead of relying on supplies from the Middle East.

U.S. Navy vessels were observed traveling through the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday as the operation continues.

The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the most important maritime chokepoints in the world. It serves as the main exit route for oil tankers leaving the Persian Gulf, with about 20 percent of the world’s oil trade typically moving through the passage — roughly 20 million barrels per day before the conflict began.

Recent Iranian mining activities and threats in the area had significantly disrupted shipping traffic, creating delays and raising concerns about global oil prices and supply chains.
