BREAKING UPDATE: US and Iran Reportedly to Close a Deal Tonight

The United States and Iran are reportedly on the verge of finalizing a deal tonight, just hours before President Donald Trump’s self-imposed 8:00 PM ET deadline expires, CNN reported.

Earlier, President Trump issued a stark warning, saying that “a whole civilization will die tonight” if Iran refused to come to the negotiating table.

Vice President JD Vance reinforced the administration’s stance, noting that the United States has largely “accomplished its military objectives,” while leaving open the possibility of either a negotiated settlement or further action depending on Iran’s response.

Iran’s diplomatic position has been unclear. Initial reports suggested Tehran had cut off all communications, but Iranian state media later clarified that indirect talks are continuing. Meanwhile, Prime Minister of Islamic Republic of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif urgently appealed to President Trump to extend the military deadline on Iran by two weeks.

Sharif wrote on X:

“Diplomatic efforts for peaceful settlement of the ongoing war in the Middle East are progressing steadily, strongly and powerfully with the potential to lead to substantive results in near future. To allow diplomacy to run its course, I earnestly request President Trump to extend the deadline for two weeks.

“Pakistan, in all sincerity, requests the Iranian brothers to open the Strait of Hormuz for a corresponding period of two weeks as a goodwill gesture. We also urge all warring parties to observe a ceasefire everywhere for two weeks to allow diplomacy to achieve conclusive termination of war, in the interest of long-term peace and stability in the region.”

Fox News reporter Jacqui Heinrich wrote on X that President Trump, in a brief call, declined to comment on the negotiations, saying, “I can’t tell you, because right now we’re in heated negotiations.” He also refrained from commenting on Pakistan’s request for a two-week extension, adding that he would be fully briefed on it soon.

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, “The President has been made aware of the proposal, and a response will come.”

A senior Iranian official told Drop Site News that Pakistan’s proposal for a temporary ceasefire is similar to previous offers from President Trump, which Iran had rejected. The official added that Iran has already submitted its own terms for ending the conflict, describing them as “a balanced proposal, endorsed by all mediators” and delivered to the American side.

Despite this, CNN reported that a potential ceasefire between the United States and Iran could be finalized tonight.

A regional source told CNN that “some good news is expected from both sides soon,” with discussions led directly by Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir. The White House confirmed that President Trump has been briefed on Sharif’s proposal and that a response is forthcoming.

President Trump said the United States is in “heated negotiations” over the Iran conflict but declined to provide further details.
