Kamala Harris slammed for bizarre text announcing her return to the Deep South

Vice President Kamala Harris has faced criticism over a campaign text announcing plans to travel through several Deep South states.

According to the message, Harris intends to visit North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Arkansas to “uplift Democrats and continue building our power in the South.” Additional stops may be scheduled over the summer and fall, CNN reported, as she helps raise funds for state Democratic parties.

The announcement sparked a wave of negative reactions on social media Tuesday. One user wrote that Harris “is literally the reason we have the administration we do today,” adding that as vice president, she was part of “the worst presidential administration in US history.” They criticized Democrats for not challenging President Biden and installing Harris when Biden was seen as incapable.

Another commenter described her as “totally clueless” and argued that she would have been “a disaster for America” if she had assumed the presidency.

Harris has not officially confirmed a presidential bid for 2028, but the Southern states on her itinerary are expected to play a key role in the next election. North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia have been pivotal in past presidential races, making them strategically important for any candidate.

The trips could also be aimed at strengthening her support among Southern Black voters, a core Democratic constituency.

California taxpayers are likely to shoulder some of the cost. During previous national and international tours to promote her book, California Highway Patrol officers provided security for Harris. State officials have declined to disclose the expense, with Gov. Gavin Newsom’s administration citing security concerns in response to an open records request.

If Harris decides to run, she could face a competitive Democratic primary that includes Newsom. Recent polling in California shows Harris trailing significantly, while Newsom leads with 28% support among state voters.
