A chaotic moment unfolded during an anti-ICE protest in Portland on Saturday night when a demonstrator attempting to burn an American flag accidentally set part of his own clothing on fire.
Independent journalist Donald Trump supporter commentator known online as “Not Tina Kotex” livestreamed the protest in downtown Portland. The demonstration drew a crowd of activists protesting immigration enforcement policies under the Trump administration. Some participants carried Pride flags, chanted slogans, and confronted journalists covering the event.
During the livestream, one protester attempted to burn an American flag as a show of opposition to U.S. immigration enforcement. However, the situation quickly went wrong when flames spread to the person’s left leg.
Video from the scene shows the individual briefly struggling as his clothing caught fire while nearby protesters reacted in surprise. One bystander can be heard calling the act “stupid” as the man tried to put out the flames.
After several seconds, the protester managed to extinguish the fire on himself and on the ground nearby. No serious injuries were reported.
Portland has frequently been the site of demonstrations related to immigration enforcement and federal policy. The city has also been associated with past clashes involving far-left activists, including individuals linked to Antifa.
While tensions have occasionally escalated during protests in the city, the incident on Saturday ended without major harm. The video clip has since circulated online, drawing attention from commentators across the political spectrum.
