Troubled Singer Britney Spears Arrested, Taken to Hospital in Southern California
Singer Britney Spears was arrested Wednesday evening in Southern California on suspicion of driving under the influence and was booked into Ventura County Jail.
According to reports from TMZ, the 44-year-old was taken to a hospital early Thursday morning so authorities could draw blood to determine her blood alcohol level.
Spears’ manager, Cade Hudson, told TMZ that the singer plans to cooperate with authorities.
He said the incident was unfortunate and that Spears intends to take responsibility and follow the legal process, expressing hope that the situation could mark the beginning of positive changes in her life and that she receives the help and support she needs.
Audio obtained by Page Six reportedly captured a dispatcher describing the vehicle before the traffic stop.
The dispatcher described a “black BMW sedan” that was swerving in and out of lanes and speeding prior to being pulled over.
TMZ reported that California Highway Patrol officers transported Spears to a nearby hospital shortly after the stop in order to conduct a blood test. Sources told the outlet she was alone in the vehicle when officers stopped her in Westlake Village, California, not far from her home.
She was not injured during the incident, and the hospital visit was only to measure her blood alcohol content.
Authorities have not released official results from the test. However, sources cited by TMZ said Spears has told people her blood alcohol level measured 0.06. The legal limit in California is 0.08, though drivers can still face DUI charges if officers observe unsafe or erratic driving.
In recent years, Spears has drawn concern from some fans due to unusual or troubling posts on her social media accounts. Her social media account was deactivated Wednesday following news of the arrest.
