A 25-year-old Arizona woman is accused of attacking another woman at a roller rink in what police describe as a jealous and retaliatory assault.
According to a probable cause statement, Justic Cofield allegedly confronted the victim on Jan. 25 at Great Skate in Glendale. Investigators say surveillance video shows Cofield approaching the woman from behind while holding two roller skates — one in each hand — before suddenly swinging one and striking her in the head. The blow reportedly knocked the victim to the ground.
Police allege Cofield then continued the attack as the woman lay on the floor. The probable cause statement says the assault appeared intentional and was meant to “send a message” to a male associate. Investigators claim Cofield later discussed the incident in direct messages and posts on Instagram, allegedly admitting to hitting the victim with a skate and continuing the assault even after a third party intervened.
The victim told police she believed she was targeted because of her friendship with Cofield’s ex-boyfriend and that jealousy was the motive. She provided investigators with photographs showing facial bruising, two swollen black eyes, and significant swelling. Authorities say she also suffered a concussion and dental injuries, including a chipped incisor and a knocked-out crown from a lower molar.
In social media messages cited by police, Cofield allegedly stated she would have escalated the situation further if it had happened outside, using slang that officers interpreted as a reference to a firearm.
Police say the victim identified Cofield through surveillance footage and Instagram. When officers located Cofield for questioning, she initially denied involvement, reportedly saying, “That’s not me,” before attempting to flee.
After being taken into custody and transported to a Glendale police interview room, Cofield allegedly damaged property inside the facility. According to authorities, she picked up a chair and repeatedly threw it at the secured door, breaking the chair and damaging the door. Officers say she continued to resist commands and pulled away when they attempted to handcuff her before eventually being placed in restraints and moved to an isolation detention room.
Cofield has been charged with aggravated assault, destruction of public property, and resisting arrest. Police say she has prior arrests related to DUI and court order violations in the Phoenix area.
She is being held on bonds totaling $151,000. Information about her next court appearance was not immediately available.
