A Pennsylvania woman is facing felony and misdemeanor charges after authorities say a fight in a mall parking lot led to her infant child being thrown from a stroller.
Oreil Dykes, 26, has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a felony, and simple assault, a misdemeanor, according to the Lower Allen Township Police Department. Three other women — Carrie Bowman, 46; Kajah George, 30; and Messiah Cloud, 21 — each face a misdemeanor simple assault charge.
Police said the incident occurred around noon Saturday outside the Capital City Mall in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. Surveillance video reportedly showed the four women mutually engaged in a fight in the parking lot.
According to investigators, Dykes was with her infant during the altercation and initially left the child in a stroller in a main traffic lane while joining the fight. She later returned to retrieve the child but, rather than moving to safety, brought the stroller back toward the confrontation. Police said that while attempting to kick another participant, Dykes tipped the stroller over, causing the unrestrained infant to fall onto the pavement.
Officers who responded to the scene spoke with George and Cloud and observed injuries to their knuckles and faces. Dykes and Bowman were also identified as participants. Authorities have not released details about what prompted the altercation or how the women were aligned in the dispute.
Dykes was arrested Saturday. The other three women were arrested Wednesday. A preliminary hearing for Dykes is scheduled for Jan. 15. Court records do not list upcoming proceedings for the other three women related to the incident.
