Trans Minnesota Dem bizarrely argues ‘queer’ kids need access to porn sites for ‘educational’ reasons
A transgender Minnesota lawmaker sparked controversy online after opposing age restrictions on pornography websites, arguing that LGBTQ+ youth may benefit from access to adult content for “educational” purposes.
State Rep. Leigh Finke, a two-term Democrat who identifies as a woman, criticized a proposed law that would require age verification on porn sites to prevent children from accessing explicit material. Finke suggested the legislation could be used to target the LGBTQ+ community.

During a committee meeting Thursday, Finke said attorneys general in states with age-verification laws appeared eager to prevent queer youth from accessing content she described as potentially informative about sexuality and community.
“They’re almost jubilant about being able to use these laws to ban young people from accessing content that could be educational if they are queer,” Finke, who transitioned in 2017, said. She added that many LGBTQ+ students do not receive inclusive sex education and claimed there is growing societal denial about the existence of transgender youth.

The comments drew criticism after a clip was shared by Moms of Liberty, a conservative parents’ group, on X.
Some users called Finke’s stance “concerning” and questioned whether it was appropriate for minors to have access to adult content. Others accused her of attempting to “groom” children and demanded she be removed from office.
Finke, Minnesota’s first transgender elected official, is seeking reelection this November.
