Ontario students won’t have to miss class to watch Olympic hockey after Premier Doug Ford said the province is making it possible for schools to show the remaining Team Canada games that fall during the school day.
In a social media post Wednesday, Ford said he has asked the education minister to ensure students can tune in, beginning with Thursday’s women’s gold-medal match against the United States. According to CP24, his office later clarified that individual schools will decide how to organize the viewing.
“After the incredible performances we’ve seen from our men’s and women’s hockey teams in Milan, all of Canada is cheering them on as they go for gold,” Ford wrote on X. “Let’s all come together to cheer on Team Canada as they bring home Olympic gold.”
The Canadian women, seeking a fifth Olympic title at the 2026 Milan Cortina Games, take the ice at 1:10 p.m. Eastern on Thursday. The men’s team, now in the semifinals, faces Finland at 10:40 a.m. Friday; a win would send them to Sunday’s gold-medal game against either the U.S. or Slovakia.
