Trump Has a 10-Day Warning for Iran

President Trump said Iran has about a week and a half to decide whether it will agree to a nuclear deal or face possible military action. Speaking Thursday at the first meeting of his new Board of Peace in Washington, he said the world would see “over the next, probably, 10 days” whether negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear program lead to an agreement or whether the United States “may have to take it a step further,” according to the BBC. His remarks come as the US deploys additional forces to the region, including the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln.

Trump also said he has been briefed on the nuclear talks underway in Geneva, describing them as progressing well. However, he stressed they must produce “a meaningful deal,” warning that “otherwise bad things will happen.” Axios, citing US and Israeli officials, reported that the United States is positioned to launch a “massive, weeks-long” military campaign on short notice if diplomacy fails.

On Capitol Hill, Representatives Ro Khanna and Thomas Massie plan to introduce a War Powers resolution aimed at limiting any strike on Iran without congressional approval. The measure faces long odds after a similar effort failed in the Senate earlier this year.
