UK authorities arrested Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor on Thursday on suspicion of misconduct in public office, according to the Associated Press. Thames Valley Police said they were reviewing reports that Mountbatten-Windsor sent trade documents to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in 2010. This review follows the release of millions of documents connected to a US investigation into Epstein. King Charles previously confirmed that the palace would cooperate with any police inquiry.

UK law prevents authorities from naming suspects immediately. When asked, Thames Valley Police referenced a statement confirming the arrest of a man in his 60s—Mountbatten-Windsor turns 66 on Thursday, according to the BBC. “Following a thorough assessment, we have now opened an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in public office,” the statement said. “It is important that we protect the integrity and objectivity of our investigation as we work with our partners to investigate this alleged offence.”

Photos circulated online showing unmarked police cars at Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, with plainclothes officers appearing outside Mountbatten-Windsor’s home. “We understand the significant public interest in this case, and we will provide updates at the appropriate time,” police added. Mountbatten-Windsor has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
