AOC Condemns Spain For Stealing Mexico’s Language

MUNICH — In a tongue-in-cheek rebuke of colonial history, U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez delivered an over-the-top critique this week accusing Spain of having “stolen” the Spanish language from Mexico.

In the parody remarks, Ocasio-Cortez cast Spain as a relic of imperial arrogance and joked that the language should be “returned” to Mexico, which she mock-asserted was its true birthplace.

“How dare you appropriate Mexico’s native tongue?” she scolded Spain’s prime minister, shaking her head in theatrical disbelief. “Stealing an entire language makes a heist movie look modest. What’s next — lifting enchilada recipes or exporting Catholicism to Europe? Check your privilege.”

The satirical speech continued with exaggerated claims that Spain had also pilfered Mexico’s cultural icons centuries ago — including romanticized horsemen in ponchos strumming guitars.

“People overlook these historic outrages, but not me,” she quipped. “Who invented caballeros? Obviously Mexico. I’ve heard ABBA’s ‘Fernando’ as much as anyone. And the word ‘caballero’ is Spanish — which means it’s Mexican.”

The fictional address, delivered in Munich, ended with a mock appeal to global leaders to adopt a new name for the language: “Mexicanian.”
