WATCH: Barack Obama Says the Right is “Mean, Angry, Exclusive
In a recent interview, Barack Obama dismissed what many Americans say are their real-world experiences, arguing that political division is primarily driven by conservatives.
“The other side does the mean, angry, exclusive, us-versus-them divisive politics. That’s their home court,” Obama said during a conversation with progressive podcast host Brian Tyler Cohen. “Our court is coming together.”
Critics point out that Obama’s remarks come despite President Donald Trump’s decisive victory in the 2024 election. Trump won the Electoral College, all seven swing states, and the national popular vote, while Republicans secured control of both the House and Senate. They argue that, even after that outcome, some political opponents continue to react angrily and dismiss opposing views.
Examples frequently cited by conservatives include being labeled xenophobic for supporting border security, racist for opposing DEI policies, or intolerant for holding traditional views on gender and sexuality. They also say conservatives are often branded fascist or extremist regardless of their efforts to engage civilly in political debate, and that some have even faced physical attacks because of their beliefs.
For these critics, Obama’s claim that the political left represents unity and acceptance does not match their perception of a culture of cancelation and hostility.
During the same interview, Obama added: “The other side does the mean, angry, exclusive, us/them divisive politics. That’s their home court. Our court is coming together. A great example — it wasn’t political — was Bad Bunny’s halftime show. It resonated because it wasn’t preaching; it was demonstrating what community looks like.”
British journalist and TV host Piers Morgan criticized Obama’s comments after watching the clip, calling them “preposterously disingenuous nonsense.” Morgan argued that “the woke left has been the single meanest, angriest, most divisive movement in history.”

According to reporting by The Gateway Pundit, another portion of the interview that aired Saturday showed Obama condemning recent attacks on immigration authorities while also describing some agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as “rogue” and “dangerous.”
Obama also addressed a meme video that depicted him and Michelle Obama as chimpanzees. He said the clip appeared inadvertently at the end of a screen-recorded video on Trump’s social media platform, Truth Social.
