Even as President Trump’s team enjoyed victory, one long-time fugitive’s Olympic trip to Italy ended in arrest rather than celebration, reports the Herald. Italian authorities detained a 44-year-old Slovak man on Wednesday in Milan after he traveled there to support the Slovakia men’s hockey team, according to Italian media. The visit was risky: Italian prosecutors had issued a warrant for his arrest 16 years ago following a series of shop thefts in 2010, NBC News reports.

Police say hotel staff in Milan’s Baggio district flagged the man while entering his details into their system. He was taken into custody and transported to San Vittore prison, where he is expected to serve just under a year—11 months and seven days.

Some small consolation came for the Slovak fan: his team pulled off an upset, defeating defending Olympic champion Finland 4-1 on Wednesday. Reports do not indicate whether the fugitive actually watched the game.
