I grew a third boob in an unexpected place after having a baby — there’s even a nipple

Jasmine Mamiya was in utter disbelief.

Recovering in the hospital after giving birth, the mom-of-two thought she’d seen it all—until a lactation consultant casually dropped the bombshell: she’d developed an extra breast, complete with a nipple, in a place most people don’t expect.

“You know how cows, puppies, and kittens have a line of nipples? Humans have that too,” Mamiya recalled, sharing the moment in a TikTok that has since gone viral. “I think I had maybe three hours of collective sleep in the last two days before she tells me this news.”

Despite the shock, Mamiya decided to share the discovery to help other women learn more about their own bodies. The revelation came when the consultant visited her room shortly after birth—a routine visit to help new moms with breastfeeding.

“I breastfed my first baby for one and a half years, so I thought, ‘There’s nothing this nurse can say that’s going to surprise me,’” Mamiya said.

But during their chat, the consultant explained that some women develop extra breast tissue along the “milk line,” an invisible strip that runs from the armpits to the groin. While everyone has it in the womb, some people are born with dormant tissue that can remain inactive for years. Pregnancy hormones can awaken it, causing the tissue to swell—and sometimes form extra nipples.

Mamiya can surgically remove the excess tissue, but the third nipple is there to stay.

Mamiya had already suspected something was happening when she noticed a persistent patch of fat under her armpits.

“It got way darker—like when your nipples and areola darken during pregnancy,” she said. “So I thought, ‘Okay, extra breast tissue, I already knew that.’”

But when the consultant took a closer look, Mamiya learned the truth: she had a fully formed third nipple in her armpit.

“She’s like, ‘Yeah, you have a third nipple on your armpit,’ as if it’s cute or something,” Mamiya said. “I thought it was just a skin tag. Learning this before I even had my first postpartum poop felt… diabolical.”

The TikTok quickly went viral, racking up more than 3.7 million views as viewers flooded the comments with questions—and requests for a peek at her extra breast.

“You’re not even gonna buy me dinner first or anything, you just wanna see my underarm boob?” she joked in a follow-up video, before revealing the bump.

Mamiya explained that the armpit is the most common location for accessory breast tissue. While the extra tissue can sometimes produce milk, she has no plans to test that theory.

“If you think I’m gonna stick my breast pump right here… no,” she said.

The lump does swell if she goes too long without breastfeeding, but staying on schedule with nursing and pumping, plus ice and heat, keeps it under control. In some women, extra breast tissue shrinks after pregnancy hormones fade, though stretched skin or fatty tissue may not fully return to pre-pregnancy shape.

“My only option is to cut it off after I’m done having kids,” Mamiya said, adding that the nipple itself can’t be removed.

Though it wasn’t a postpartum curveball she expected, Mamiya isn’t bothered.

“Who cares? You’ve got a third boob, a fourth boob—it’s really one of the milder medical changes after pregnancy,” she said.

Mamiya, who shares content on motherhood and mental health, said she posted the videos to shed light on the less-discussed aspects of pregnancy and postpartum life.

Her openness resonated with viewers, many of whom shared similar experiences—forming what Mamiya dubbed “The sisterhood of the 3rd nipple.”

“As women, especially mothers, our vulnerability is our strength,” she told The Post. “There’s so much that’s not talked about. Sharing our experiences honestly is how we normalize it. There is no experience that millions of women before you haven’t gone through… like armpit boobs!”
