Maria Santay livestreamed her arrest while present during an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation in El Monte, California, on Friday.
Santay, who is associated with the group “ICE Out of LA,” was at a Chevron gas station where several individuals had gathered while federal agents were conducting activity in the area. Some people in the group were using whistles and cowbells near the agents.
During the livestream, Santay can be heard reacting as federal agents approached her vehicle.
“Don’t shoot at my window! What the f*ck!” Santay said as agents surrounded the car. “Lord protect me please!”
She told viewers that her window was being broken and repeatedly stated that she was a U.S. citizen. Federal agents can be heard instructing her to exit the vehicle.
“Get out of the car! Out of the car!” agents shouted.
Santay continued speaking to viewers on her social media feed, saying she believed she was about to be arrested and expressing fear about the situation.
This was not Santay’s first recent interaction with federal authorities. Earlier in the week, agents reportedly stopped her vehicle near the 10 Freeway after concerns that she had been following ICE agents. In an interview with ABC 7, Santay described feeling afraid during that encounter.
“I thought, ‘This is it. These are my last moments,’” she told the station.
She said multiple vehicles surrounded her car during the stop, and local police arrived due to the activity in the area.
During Friday’s incident, local law enforcement did not intervene as federal agents took Santay into custody and transported her to Santa Ana.
Santay was later charged with resisting arrest.
