PUEBLO, Colo. — Police in Colorado are investigating an unusual burglary in which thieves broke into a home and stole only an urn containing the remains of the homeowner’s father.

The incident occurred just before 4 p.m. on Jan. 21 at the home of Geraldine Sierra on Brothers Lane in Pueblo, about 110 miles south of Denver. According to police, Sierra called authorities after seeing two unknown men inside her home on security cameras. Officers arrived quickly, but the suspects had already fled.

Investigators said the men exited a car, went directly to the house, and broke in through a back door. Police believe the burglary was targeted, as the suspects appeared to know the layout of the home. After entering, they went straight to Sierra’s bedroom. When she returned home, Sierra found that electronics and other valuables were untouched—but her father’s urn was missing.

Sierra told local ABC affiliate KRDO that her father, Patrick, died last year after battling cancer.

“He was like my best friend. Someone I talked to every single day until he passed away. He was my hero, my everything. When he passed away, everything just stopped,” she said. She urged the thieves to return the ashes.

Pueblo police spokeswoman said detectives continue to investigate and are following up on leads.

“I just wish somebody would bring him back home,” Sierra said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Pueblo police.
