A recent New York Times/Siena University poll shows widespread dissatisfaction with President Trump’s second term, prompting the president to threaten legal action over the survey. In a series of posts on Truth Social, Trump called the poll “rigged” and said it would be added to his lawsuit against what he called “The Failing New York Times.”
Key findings from the poll include:
-
49% of registered voters say the country is worse off than a year ago, while 32% believe it has improved.
-
Trump’s overall approval rating has dropped to 40%, with 56% disapproving.
-
51% say his policies have made life less affordable, compared with 24% who say they have helped.
-
42% of voters believe Trump is on track to be one of the worst presidents ever, while 19% think he could become one of the best.
Independent voters are especially critical, with only 34% approving of Trump’s performance and 52% saying the country is worse off than a year ago.
On immigration, voters generally support Trump’s goals but criticize implementation. About half back deportations of people living in the country without legal status and give him positive marks on border security. However, 61%—including 71% of independents—say ICE has “gone too far,” and 63% disapprove of how the agency is performing.
Trump dismissed the poll as “bogus,” writing on Truth Social, “Something has to be done about Fake Polls! They are truly OUT OF CONTROL. We have the Greatest Economy in the History of our Country, we have the Strongest Border in History, nobody has ever done a job like I have done, and they have me in the low 40s.”
