Across the country, ICE raids are underway as President Donald Trump fulfills his campaign promise to address what he has called a surge of illegal immigration under the previous administration. These law enforcement operations have sparked strong reactions from Democrats, with some openly criticizing federal officers and, in certain cases, endorsing aggressive opposition.

There are a couple of ways some of the tensions could be minimized. One is by eliminating sanctuary cities and states, which would allow local authorities to hand over individuals in the country illegally directly to ICE rather than leaving enforcement to federal officers on the streets. Another option is for those living in the U.S. illegally to voluntarily return to their home countries through self-deportation, avoiding encounters with law enforcement.

The Department of Homeland Security reports a growing number of people are choosing the self-deportation route. Traffic to the agency’s self-deportation webpage has surged since President Trump returned to the White House.

According to DHS, the site saw a 68.5% increase in visits compared with 2024, reaching 102 million page views and 67 million unique visitors. The most visited pages provide information on self-deportation through the CBP Home App. In addition, at least 100,000 individuals have taken advantage of the cash incentive DHS offers to encourage voluntary departure.

A DHS spokesperson told Fox News Digital, “Under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump and Secretary Kristi Noem, DHS has entered one of the most consequential periods of action and reform in American history. From securing the border and removing dangerous criminal illegal aliens to improving disaster response and modernizing travel, DHS will continue to build on this success and deliver results for the American people.”

The agency recently announced that it is increasing the self-deportation cash bonus from $1,000 to $2,600. DHS says this move is expected to boost participation, offering a clear choice: a voluntary departure with financial support, or potential arrest by ICE. Since President Trump took office, approximately 2.2 million people have self-deported.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated, “To celebrate one year of this administration, the U.S. taxpayer is generously increasing the incentive to leave voluntarily for those in this country illegally—offering a $2,600 exit bonus. Illegal aliens should take advantage of this opportunity, because if they do not, we will find them, we will arrest them, and they will not be allowed to return.”

While some on the Left continue to criticize these actions and attempt to disrupt ICE operations, proponents argue that these steps reflect the will of a majority of American voters. Cleaning up what President Trump has described as the previous administration’s “mess” is not easy, but it is a key campaign promise he is actively delivering.
