‘ We have your dog,’ Gunman Said 4 Words Before Shooting Judge, Wife

An armed suspect shot a Tippecanoe Superior Court judge and his wife through the front door of their Lafayette, Indiana, home on Sunday after making a brief statement to them, authorities said.

According to police dispatch audio obtained by Fox News, the gunman knocked on the door and said, “We have your dog,” before opening fire. Judge Steven Meyer was struck in the arm, and his wife, Kimberly Meyer, was shot in the hip. Both were reported to be in stable condition as of Monday.

The suspect fled the scene and remains at large. The Lafayette Police Department is leading the investigation with assistance from county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, according to The Washington Post.

Police have not identified any suspects or announced a possible motive. Meyer, 66, has served as a judge since 2014 and has presided over several high-profile cases. In July, he sentenced a man to 40 years in prison after determining the man left a firearm unattended, leading to a fatal shooting involving two young children, the Post reported.

In a statement released Monday, Kimberly Meyer expressed confidence in law enforcement and gratitude for community support. “I have great confidence in the Lafayette Police Department’s investigation and want to thank all the agencies involved for their work,” she said. “We are also incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support from the community and would like to thank the medical personnel who cared for us following the incident.”
