Ahmad Jihad Bojeh gunned down three Florida tourists
Three men from the Midwest were fatally shot Saturday while vacationing in central Florida, authorities said.
The victims — Robert Luis Kraft, 69, of Holland, Michigan; his brother Douglas Joseph Kraft, 68, of Columbus, Ohio; and their friend James Puchan, 68, also of Ohio — were in Kissimmee for a weekend trip to attend a car show.
According to investigators, the men were staying at a rental property and waiting for assistance after experiencing problems with their rental car. While they were outside the home, they were approached by a neighbor, later identified as 29-year-old Ahmad Jihad Bojeh, who allegedly opened fire without provocation.
Osceola County Sheriff Christopher Blackmon said there was no prior interaction or dispute between Bojeh and the victims.
“There was no conflict. This was a random, cold-blooded, premeditated act,” Blackmon said during a press briefing. “These men were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
Deputies responded to reports of a shooting around 12:13 p.m. Saturday at a subdivision near Kissimmee, where they found the bodies of three adult men outside the rental home. All had suffered apparent gunshot wounds.
Family members of the victims released a joint statement describing the attack as senseless and devastating.
“There were no known interactions between the men and this individual prior to the event. They were approached and senselessly murdered,” the statement said. “Our families are left with an unexpected, unimaginable loss that cannot be put into words.”
The families asked for privacy and prayers as they grieve.
Authorities confirmed that Bojeh had previously been arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder with a firearm in an unrelated case but was acquitted after an insanity plea. He is now in custody in connection with the triple homicide.
The investigation remains ongoing.
