Houston authorities have arrested 44-year-old Carl Taylor, who is accused of fatally beating a man with a television and then placing the body in a wheelchair before rolling it to a nearby bus stop.

Police charged Taylor with murder and tampering with evidence, according to a Houston Police Department press release. Officers responded around 8:30 a.m. on November 25 to a bus stop in the 600 block of East Tidwell Road, where they found an unresponsive man sitting in a wheelchair. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

Investigators said they found evidence of the murder at a nearby apartment. Court records indicate that Taylor allegedly struck the victim with a TV and other objects, then placed him in a wheelchair. Surveillance footage reportedly shows Taylor wheeling the victim to the bus stop and leaving. Taylor lived at the apartment, while the victim’s identity has not been released. Authorities have not disclosed a potential motive or the nature of the relationship between the suspect and the victim.

Prosecutors said police recovered bloody towels, a broken TV, and drag marks consistent with moving the victim across the apartment floor, according to the Houston Chronicle. Officers believe the victim may have been homeless.

The apartment complex primarily houses low-income seniors and disabled adults. Taylor’s attorney, Mark Hochglaube, said he has not yet seen the surveillance footage and expressed confidence that the evidence will show his client’s innocence. “I’m curious to see what it shows,” Hochglaube told the Chronicle.

Taylor was taken into custody and is being held at Harris County Jail on a $130,000 bond. Court records show he has a criminal history spanning more than 20 years, including charges for theft, making terroristic threats, and resisting arrest.

His next court appearance is scheduled for February 9.
