Far-Left Portland Police Chief CRIES Over Two Tren de Aragua Gang Members Who Were Shot After They Tried to Run Over Border Patrol Agents (VIDEO)
Federal agents shot two suspected members of the violent Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua during an incident in Portland, Oregon, on Thursday afternoon, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
DHS said U.S. Border Patrol agents were conducting a targeted vehicle stop at approximately 2:19 p.m. PST. The passenger in the vehicle was identified as a Venezuelan illegal alien with ties to the transnational Tren de Aragua prostitution ring and alleged involvement in a recent Portland shooting. Authorities believe the driver was also a member of the gang.
According to DHS, when agents identified themselves, the driver attempted to use the vehicle as a weapon and tried to run over the agents.
“Fearing for his life and safety, an agent fired a defensive shot,” DHS stated. The driver then fled the scene with the passenger still inside the vehicle. Both individuals were later found wounded and transported to a local hospital. DHS said the investigation remains ongoing.
On Friday, Portland Police Chief Bob Day became emotional while addressing the incident, ultimately confirming that DHS’s assessment was accurate.
“They do have some nexus to involvement with TDA. We can confirm that,” Day said, visibly fighting back tears.
Chief Day admitted he was initially reluctant to disclose the gang affiliation, saying he wanted to address Portland’s Latino community directly.
“It saddens me that we even have to qualify these remarks,” Day said. “I understand—or at least have attempted to understand—your voices, your concern, your fear, your anger.”
He added that the information was not intended to justify or condemn the actions taken during the shooting, but to clarify the facts surrounding the incident.
“This information, in no way, is meant to disparage or to condone or support or agree with any of the actions that occurred yesterday,” Day said.
