The shooting occurred around 2:15 p.m. near the intersection of Southeast 102nd Avenue and Main Street. According to KATU, U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents were involved in the incident.
Portland police said officers were dispatched to the area at approximately 2:20 p.m., where they confirmed that federal agents had been involved in a shooting. A few minutes later, officers received a call for assistance near Northeast 146th Avenue and East Burnside Street. When officers arrived, they found a man and a woman suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Both victims were transported to a local hospital. Their conditions have not been released, though Portland City Council President Elana Pirtle-Guiney said she believed both individuals were still alive at the time of reporting.
Authorities have not released details about what led to the shooting. Federal officials, Portland police, and the FBI are involved in the investigation. A press conference is expected to provide additional information.
The incident comes one day after an ICE agent fatally shot a woman in Minneapolis after authorities said she attempted to run the agent over with a vehicle.
