White Stripes frontman Jack White publicly criticized Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) after the congressman shared an AI-generated video that falsely appeared to show White telling “fascists” not to listen to his music.

The brief clip, which circulated online in late December, featured a digitally altered likeness of White delivering a fabricated statement. The video did not identify who the remark was aimed at, and no evidence suggested White actually made the comment.

Rep. Burchett reposted the video on December 29 with the caption, “That cute little girl from the Addams Family got really ugly and angry.” Shortly afterward, the original post was removed, and a community note was added clarifying that the video was created using artificial intelligence.

White responded on December 30 through an Instagram post, sharply criticizing Burchett and President Trump’s supporters. In the post, White accused Burchett and other Republican officials of engaging in immature political behavior and lacking dignity. He also expressed frustration with what he described as declining leadership and political discourse, specifically calling out Burchett and his supporters in Tennessee. White later disabled comments on the post.

White has been openly critical of President Trump and Republicans in the past, previously using harsh language to describe them. He has also criticized entertainers who have met with President Trump and has taken legal action against the Trump campaign for using his music without permission.

Rep. Burchett, however, said he was aware the video was AI-generated and claimed it was shared sarcastically. In an email to The Daily Beast, Burchett stated that the post was meant as a joke and suggested White should focus his attention on other issues, including advocating for the late country singer Johnny Paycheck’s induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
