Vinnie Vincent believes his latest music release carries a premium value—and he’s pricing it accordingly. The 73-year-old guitarist, best known for his short-lived run with KISS, is releasing his new single, Ride the Serpent, as what he describes as a highly exclusive collector’s item.
Only 500 physical copies of the song are being produced. Each comes with a signed, hand-numbered sleeve, according to People. The single is priced at $225 for U.S. customers and $300 for international buyers via Vincent’s website. In an earlier Facebook post announcing the release, Vincent initially suggested a flat $300 price for all buyers.
Anticipating criticism, Vincent addressed complaints head-on in social media comments. He acknowledged fans’ frustration over the cost but said the high price is intentional, arguing that it helps protect his work from piracy. Vincent claimed the demand for his music is so strong that it would be quickly copied and redistributed if released more widely. He said he plans to closely monitor and take action against any bootleg versions.
Calling the situation a “double-edged sword,” Vincent said he appreciates the interest in his work but does not want the recording to circulate freely. He later disabled comments on his posts, citing what he described as excessive complaints from fans who expect the music at no cost. He dismissed some critics as entitled and unrealistic.
Vincent’s tenure with KISS was brief, lasting from 1982 to 1984, according to Rolling Stone. In addition to the single, he is also offering a high-end merchandise package priced at $7,500, notes Stereogum, for fans looking to spend significantly more.
The move reflects a broader trend among former KISS members capitalizing on exclusivity. Earlier this year, Gene Simmons made headlines by offering fans a $12,000 package to serve as his personal assistant and roadie for a day on tour, telling the New York Post the experience was meant to give fans a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes life of a rock star.
