In Venezuela, under the rule of Nicolas Maduro, the holiday season has effectively been extended since October, as previously reported by TGP. Now, with the extended break behind them, the socialist government faces increasing pressure from the United States.

Venezuela is experiencing a growing crisis in its oil sector, with storage facilities running low due to ships being seized or turned away. Satellite imagery also shows a U.S. amphibious assault group moving toward Venezuelan waters, including the special operations command ship Ocean Trader and the USS Iwo Jima.

President Donald J. Trump has directed U.S. forces to implement an “oil quarantine” on Venezuela for at least the next two months. Analysts suggest that the administration is prioritizing economic measures over military action to push Maduro out of power.

A U.S. official told Reuters, speaking anonymously, that “while military options still exist, the focus is to first use economic pressure by enforcing sanctions to reach the outcome the White House is looking for.”

Though publicly President Trump has been cautious about detailing his strategy, he has privately urged Maduro to step down. The official added that these measures have already placed significant strain on Maduro, and Venezuela could face an economic disaster by late January unless substantial concessions are made to the United States.
