WATCH: Bumbling crooks go to insane lengths to try to rip off ATM — and still end up empty-handed
Santa’s naughty list grew longer this Christmas Eve after two would-be thieves botched an ATM heist at a Texas 7-Eleven.
Surveillance video shows the suspects arriving at the store around 4 a.m. in a stolen SUV. Wearing black gloves and masks, the two men jumped out of the vehicle as it rolled into the parking lot. One suspect smashed a glass window with a metal object and ran inside the store, dragging a metal cable connected to the SUV.
The suspect forced open the bottom of the ATM and attached the cable to the safe inside. Moments later, the driver outside accelerated, ripping the ATM from its corner and tearing it through store aisles before it crashed out through the front window. The first suspect narrowly avoided being struck as the heavy machine burst outside.

The SUV sped off with the ATM safe dragging behind it, smashing into another vehicle before continuing down the street in White Settlement, a suburb west of Fort Worth. It remains unclear from the footage whether the second suspect managed to get back into the SUV.
Inside the store, shelves were overturned and merchandise was scattered across the floor. Despite the destruction, the thieves failed to get away with any money.
Police later found the ATM safe intact in a ditch near an auto dealership and recovered all of its contents. “At this time of year, you see that level of desperation, and that’s what makes it dangerous,” White Settlement Police Chief Christopher Cook told WFAA.
Officers later located the SUV abandoned in a nearby parking lot and confirmed it had been reported stolen out of Dallas. The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made.
