Minnesota Governor Tim Walz’s daughter, Hope Walz, shared a politically charged holiday message on Christmas Eve, sending wishes to undocumented immigrants she says have been targeted by ICE.
“I just wanted to say Merry Christmas to all. Today I’m holding our neighbors that ICE has been terrorizing near and dear to my heart and sending them all the love and light, as well as all the unhoused folks — just anybody that may be struggling right now,” the 24-year-old social worker said in a video posted to her TikTok account.
Hope added, “This year has been a tough one for all of us,” as the video closed. The message drew criticism on social media, with some users accusing her of ignoring the struggles of Americans experiencing homelessness and the victims of crimes committed by undocumented immigrants.

ICE agents recently conducted operations in Minneapolis targeting hundreds of Somali immigrants living in the city, where an estimated 80,000 people from East Africa reside. The raids come after reports that members of the Somali migrant community allegedly committed extensive fraud, costing Minnesota taxpayers around $1 billion, according to the state’s Department of Human Services.
Hope Walz has more than 555,000 TikTok followers and has become a vocal progressive voice since her father ran as Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate in 2024. She has also been critical of President Trump, who recently referred to her father with an offensive term during a Thanksgiving message criticizing Walz’s handling of immigration in Minnesota. Hope responded in a since-deleted TikTok post, calling the remark a “f–king s–t storm” affecting her and her family.

Earlier this month, Hope announced she would be taking a break from TikTok until around Christmas, citing safety concerns after receiving threatening messages online.
