A 75-year-old woman was seriously injured in downtown Seattle after being attacked by a man with a history of violent behavior.

According to authorities, 42-year-old Fale Vaigalepa Pea struck Jeanette Marken in the face with a wooden board that had a screw embedded in it. The incident occurred as Marken stood on a street corner after picking up a food order earlier this month. Surveillance footage shows Pea approaching Marken and swinging the weapon with full force.

Bystanders came to Marken’s aid, and she was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Family members later confirmed that Marken lost vision in the affected eye.

Pea has a long criminal history and has been booked eight times this year on charges including assault, indecent exposure, unlawful use of weapons, malicious mischief, drug offenses, and property destruction. In 2011, he was arrested for stabbing two people, one of whom was stabbed eight times, and served 18 months of community custody.

A police officer who detained Pea noted that he is known for randomly assaulting people. “He’s a regular. He usually punches. I guess today he decided to escalate,” the officer said.
