Horror as female doctor’s naked body is discovered inside Dollar Tree freezer a day after she entered store
MIAMI — Police are working to understand a deeply unusual and tragic situation after a young doctor was found deceased inside a freezer at a Dollar Tree store in Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
The woman, identified as Helen Massiell Garay Sanchez, 32, was discovered early Sunday morning by a store employee who noticed something was wrong while opening the shop. Authorities say Sanchez had entered the store the previous evening but left without making a purchase.
Investigators believe she somehow made her way into an employees-only area of the store and remained there overnight. Why she entered the restricted space — and what led to the circumstances of her death — remains unclear.
Police have stated that no foul play is suspected, and the case is currently being reviewed as an unclassified death.
Sanchez, an anesthesiologist originally from Nicaragua, specialized in treating congenital heart disease and was known for her work with children. Friends and family described her as devoted to her profession and deeply connected to her two young children, who live in Nicaragua.
A GoFundMe page created in her memory highlights her compassion and dedication, noting that her work “brought hope and healing to countless children and families.” Loved ones are now raising funds to return her body to her home country.
The Dollar Tree location briefly closed while authorities investigated but reopened later that same day. Customers expressed disbelief at the strange and heartbreaking discovery.
“It’s something you never expect,” one shopper said. “It’s just very sad.”
Dollar Tree officials released a statement offering condolences to Sanchez’s family and confirmed they are cooperating fully with investigators.
As police continue looking into Sanchez’s final hours, those who knew her say they hope she will be remembered not for the mystery surrounding her death, but for the care and kindness she gave to others.
